Our Missions Team supports and coordinates the 34+ mission projects of VUMC. We have local, national and international projects that are supported throughout the year. Our focus for this year is continued support of meals and visiting with the men of the Rescue Mission and meals to the community of Sarah Jane Johnson UMC. We work with the Broome County Council of Churches in their mission to Broome County Jail. VUMC coordinates 3 to 4 food drives per year and delivers these donations to the local food pantry--Our Lady of Sorrows Church. We send members of VUMC to the Haiti VIM mission several times a year, to assist with on-going projects. We also support Habitat For Humanity projects. In June of each year, the congregation celebrates "Reaching Up-Reaching Out Sunday" and assists local people who may need a little help with gardening or light household repairs. The Missions Team reviews on-going requests for assistance from areas in need and recommends action to the church. We are an active church, who believes in the glory and joy of working and giving.
Helping Haiti 2017-2018
The Haiti Partnership has been serving the people of Haiti since 1995. We have built churches, schools, mission houses, and more. We have delivered thousands of school kits, hygiene kits, and birthing kits, and have a successful clean water project in the Southeast.
In recent years, our mission emphasis has changed to create sustainable projects and independent communities through development and job creation. We want to enable Haitians to create and run their own projects that can be sustained for years to come.
We need your help: To donate and support our programs, make checks payable to “Upper New York Conference” and memo it “Haiti Partnership Project Fund – Advance Special 936”. Send contributions to 7481 Clay Blvd. Liverpool, NY 13088.
We thank you on behalf of our Haitian brothers and sisters.
Here are some of the many projects you can support:
Community Development &
Job Creation in Hermitage
· Talapia Farm - To support the community and school.
· Community Gardens - Income and jobs, plus school
· Cyber Café - Profits to support teachers’ salaries.
· Rotary International Grant - Will help support and provide community development projects such as irrigation canals on our water system to enable a large expansion of community gardens.
Early in October 2016, Matthew slammed Haiti with sustained winds up to 140 MPH. Churches, schools, clinics, and thousands of homes were destroyed. More than 70% of crops were wiped out. Full recovery will take years. Community leaders will identify those in greatest need and our teams will offer financial support and hands-on help.
· Rebuild schools
· Replace roofs on churches
· Community recovery and development
This is an ongoing ministry of Vestal United Methodist Church. In our church lobby we have a CHOW barrel. Members and friends continuously drop off donations of needed food items. When the barrel is full, we call the CHOW office and they schedule a pick-up. Thank you for your generosity in helping your neighbors in need!
