For adults and youth grades 7 and up
The Chancel Bells ring 4-6 times a year, as well as occassionally accompanying the Chancel choir. The basic ability to read music and some experience or training in music is necessary. Experience could be in a band, orchestra or singing in a choir. (Note: the experience does not need to be recent, you would be surprised how quickly your musical skills will return!)
The group meets several times to rehearse before a scheduled performance, begninning about a month ahead of time. There are no regualar rehearsal days, but a schedule will be given during the first practice for each performance. Since each ringer is a 'soloist' - meaing each ringer plays a specific part which is not duplicated - it is very helpful if each ringer is willing to be flexible in scheduling rehearsals. There are very few handbell substitutes and when a part is missing, it is very difficult for the remaining ringers to rehearse.
No experience ringing handbells? Don't worry - Jim Gleason will happily teach that in rehearsal!
